The techniques behind the pixels

How Qpunks are made

Every Qpunk is built with real pixel-art craft, not filters.

Drawing techniques

Dithering
Two colors scattered in a pattern to fake shading and texture, the old-school way: skin shadows, fabric.
Outlining
A dark contour around each punk so it pops off the background.
Limited palette
Every trait pulls from a fixed, hand-picked color set, so the whole collection stays coherent.
Gradient backdrops
Smooth color washes behind the character.

Digital effects

Nearest-neighbour upscaling
Built on a tiny 48 px grid, blown up to 3024 px with zero blur, so every pixel stays a crisp square.
CRT glitch and scanlines
Horizontal distortion and pixel offset. The Glitch trait.
Mosaic and censor bars
Pixelated blocks over the eyes. The Mosaic trait.
Starfield shine
Sparkle dots scattered across the frame. The Shine trait.

Before the pixels

How Qpunks started

Qpunks didn't begin as pixels. It began as ink. The first sketches were loose and gestural: single figures built from calligraphic brush strokes, surrounded by blooms of color and dandelion bursts. Just a body, a stance, an attitude on bare paper.

From there it branched into ink figures drawn in one breath, lattice studies where the same figure dissolved onto a warped grid, and big full-bleed abstracts in violent purples, teal and magenta. The question was always the same: how little can a punk be and still read as a punk?

To live as NFTs, as avatars people carry in a wallet, the art needed to be recognizable at thumbnail size and built from traits you could mix. So the ink and the abstractions were distilled into pixels: the same attitude, now sharp, modular and collectible.

The soul stayed. The format grew up.
